Reader’s Question:
I thought that the older the car is, the lower the car insurance will be. But to my surprise, all the quotes I got were higher for the Toyota Camry I’m using now. How is this so, and where do I get cheaper car insurance for the classic car my father left me?

I see your point, Adam. I myself have answered so many inquiries telling them that the car’s year, make and model is one of the basis your car insurance premium is computed. And then you come across a classic car, and all you know about car insurance doesn’t hold true anymore. Well, Adam, don’t worry, nothing is wrong with you. What you know is true. Classic cars are a class of their own, that’s why a car’s year, make and model is not applicable. Probably, the classic car you own is also owned only by a handful of other people. This fact means that spare parts are hard to come by, and so when you make a claim for a repair, chances are, your mechanic will have to scour all the places he knows where to get the necessary parts to replace your damaged one. Aside from that, since classic cars are really vintage, it takes really special mechanics to fix them. So, probably, expect a special charge since you got a special car.
Adam, in looking for cheaper car insurance for a classic car, you should first have a special storage room for a classic car because that is the first thing that will be required for a classic car insurance. Adam, since this is not your ordinary everyday car, you should only trust big-name car insurance companies as also they are the only ones probably offering this type of special insurance.
