I am a shopkeeper in Massachusetts. Can I get cheaper car insurance quotes if my car is loaded with anti-car theft features?

Theoretically, yes, but that would really depend on which anti-car theft devices you have equipped your car with. As you know, some anti-car theft devices are easily tampered with, thus making them ineffective in the event a professional car thief makes a run for the ill-equipped car. I’m talking about those factory-installed types of security systems. It seems utterly useless to have these types installed because they can be easily disarmed.

However, if you have noisy alarm, it might work well with your auto insurance provider. The idea is that the noisier it gets, the more attention it will draw, and the thief will be left with little else to do but run away as fast as possible. With this type of alarm system, though, you might want to have a backup battery, in case the thief disconnects the main one. Your noisy alarm wouldn’t be any good if it’s shut off very quickly. Having a backup battery to power up your alarm will disorient them or will alert them that your car is made of sterner stuff and would make them think again if they should continue on with the heist. If your car has an external release, installing a hood lock will make a good deterrent for battery and engine thieves.

It would also help if you car is already equipped with an armored collar. Auto insurance companies would like that, although they generally prefer the permanent type of armored collar. Another preferred alarm system is a well-placed immobilizer or ignition kill switch. This will prevent your car from being ignited or started. I’m sure your auto insurance provider there in Massachusetts will give you cheaper car insurance quotes if your car is equipped with these security features.
